International Business and Management Studies
Bachelor of International Business and Management Studies(IBMS)
Content programme
First and second year
In the first two years you will learn basic management skills. Much attention is being given to the Personal Development Programme. In the first year you will naturally take courses such as Marketing, Sales, Accounting and Law.
In the second year you will submerge yourself a bit more in the world of management. This means that the courses become more specialised as well: Acquisition, Communication, Total Quality Management, Logistics and Human Resource Management.

Third and fourth year
In the third year you start with one of the three following specialisations:
1. Food and Agribusiness Management (Van Hall Larenstein)
Apart from the US, the Netherlands are the largest exporter of food- and agrirelated products! Plenty of possibilities therefore to start an international career from the Netherlands. You will follow modules such as: International Strategic Management, Supply Chain Management, Quality Management and a project called International Sustainability Management. You will do a work placement at a multinational in the food sector. Think of Unilever, Friesland Foods or Nestlé. This work placement can take place in the Netherlands, but also in a branch abroad.
2. Retail and Small Business Management (Stenden Hogeschool)
This specialisation will provide you with a solid retail basis. Subjects are Financial Management, Strategic Planning and In-store Marketing.
3. Business-to-Business Management (NHL)
This specialisation is all about strategic choices and opening up new international markets. International Business Strategy is an all-important course in this specialisation.
In the first part of the fourth year you can study abroad or do a work placement. In the second semester you will carry out a research project within a company, leading to your final thesis.
