Social habits
In a restaurant or café people usually pay for their own consumptions. It is considered a nice gesture to give a 10% tip, but it is not necessary. In principle everything is covered by the bill. It is often the case that if one is not satisfied about the service, the food or the drinks, there will be no tip. If one is extremely satisfied, an extra tip may be given.
Complaining is a typically Dutch habit, in particular about the weather. It is never fine. If it is hot, it is too hot, if it is cold, it is too cold and it is always raining too much. The Dutch love to complain over all kinds of things, even if they usually do not mean it so bad.
Drugs
Drugs are not legal in the Netherlands. The use of softdrugs and possession of a small stash of soft drugs, however, are not subject to punishment. Soft drugs can be bought and used in so-called coffeeshops.
