Transport
Everybody in the Netherlands owns a bike, irrespective of their income or social status. The government even has a minister who is renowned for the fact that he goes to work by bike. Often it is the best way to get somewhere on time, in particular in a city. Because Holland is densely populated, the roads are often congested and in the cities it is hard to get through traffic or to find a parking space. It is also considered a healthy activity, and in their spare time the Dutch like to go for a bike ride. The number of bike thefts, however, is very high. It is no unnecessary luxury to buy a decent padlock.
On the website www.cyclinginwageningen.nl, you can find information about traffic rules, bicycle maintenance and safekeeping.
You can get almost anywhere by public transport. The Netherlands has an extensive railway network and if there is no train headed towards your destination, you can always take a bus.
