Content programme

First year

Most of the first semester is spent on the course Marketing of Wood Products (theory and practice) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Skinnskatteberg. This course provides basic knowledge in three main themes: wood materials and wood products; the marketing and sale of wood products at different trading stages; laws and regulations in the wood trade. At the end of the semester, you return to the Netherlands to take an additional three-week course in wood science and technology.

In the second semester, you will undertake two 11-week work placements at a timber trade company. One of these two placements should be outside the Netherlands. Last year's students did their placement for example in Finland, France, Gambia, Malaysia and Cameroon.

Second year

As a final preparation, you will take an extensive programme in the third semester that will prepare you for your future career. Modules and activities in this semester include timber trade, wood policies, wood quality and grading, marketing and a management game.

The course culminates in the preparation of a thesis during the fourth semester on a timber trade topic. Throughout the programme, you also focus on developing your communication and personal management skills.
