Final Phase Sustainable Water Technology
Bachelor of Environment
Content programme
First year
The final phase is part of the bachelor of Environment. You will gain a broad overview of the role of water in the environment and of the methods and technologies that manage its quality. Basic subjects are about policy, water, nature, ecology, and water treatment technologies. But you will also be taught specific subjects on energy and climate change. You will work on your practical lab skills and conduct fieldwork.

The first year also includes a traineeship, for example at a consultancy agency (DHV, Royal Haskoning, Arcadis), a manufacturing company (DSM, Shell), a government or non-government organisation or a research institute (TNO, Wetsus). This placement is carried out in the Netherlands and is aimed at familiarising yourself with the professional world.
Second year

The second year consists of a minor water technology for about six months and a final thesis. This minor is a project in which you will research water problems and advise the consultancy agency on the solutions. The thesis is the crown on your programme. Here you will work independently as a water technologist to show that you can find sustainable solutions to real water problems.
After finishing the bachelor you might continue on a master programme, for instance Water Process Technology (Leeuwarden) or Environmental Systems Analysis (Wageningen).
