Bachelor of International Business and Management Studies
Meet the world in the Netherlands
Internationalisation and globalisation determine today's global outlook. The Netherlands has an excellent reputation all over the world when it comes to agricultural products. Many businesses in the food sector have their origins in the Netherlands. Think of the original Dutch Unilever or Sara Lee/Douwe Egberts which are now subsidiaries of large multinationals. The demand for young, internationally oriented managers who have learned to cooperate in intercultural teams, is constantly increasing.

International Business and Management Studies (IBMS) is an internationally oriented Business Administration (BBA) study. It is a special collaboration between the Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden (NHL), Stenden Hogeschool, and Van Hall Larenstein, which allows you to experience the best these three universities have to offer. You will have your own study coach, various consultancy services, contact with international students, and plenty of possibilities to join in international exchange programmes. You will start off with a broad basis and in the third year you will choose from one of three different specialisations: Food and Agribusiness Management, Business-to-Business Management or Retail and Small Business Management.
First and second year
In the first two years you will learn basic management skills. Much attention is being given to the Personal Development Programme. In the first year you will naturally take courses such as Marketing, Sales, Accounting and Law. In the second year you will submerge yourself a bit more in the world of management. This means that the courses become more specialised as well: Acquisition, Communication, Total Quality Management, Logistics and Human Resource Management.
Third and fourth year
In the third year you start with one of the three following specialisations:
Food and Agribusiness Management (Van Hall Larenstein)
Retail and Small Business Management (Stenden Hogeschool)
Business-to-Business Management (NHL)
Entry requirements
You need to have A-levels or equivalent to be allowed into the first year of the bachelor programme of your choice. You must also have a sufficient knowledge of the English language (e.g. TOEFL with a score of 550, IELTS 6.0), and possess basic computer skills.

Career opportunities
A graduate of IBMS Top of Holland student will embark on an international management career. You may be working as a product manager at for example Ahold, and co-decide about the assortment on the shelves of the Albert Heijn. If you are employed as a purchase manager at Douwe Egberts/Sara Lee, you will be responsible for the quality and price of the ingredients. One moment you might buy coffee even before the beans have been picked, the next moment at the very last moment. And as a supply chain manager at Friesland Foods you will streamline the international trade in various durable raw materials.
