The APCM professional is a professional working in a private company that is part of the chain. The work is determined by functions such as logistical efficiency, provision of information, quality control and food safety and profit, or he/she is a professional working in the public sector within a national, regional or district Government or Non-Governmental Organisation serving the private organisation or company of the agricultural chain.

They facilitate the actors and supporters of the chain determined by the goals of the organisation they work for, or in the absence of clear existence of the chain to mainstream the concept of value chain development.

Managers and co-ordinators of programmes and companies related to horticulture chains will gain specialised skills that enable them to improve the management and co-ordination capacity of their organisation. By integrating plant-production subjects with management skills, and by addressing the economic and institutional aspects of agriculture, the programme will help them anticipate changes in demand and policies at local, national and international levels. It will thus enhance their ability to manage and innovate.
