  • Introduction. This focuses on the competencies related to studying and personal development.
  • Management of Development. After an introduction to Development Theories, you will conduct a Visual Problem Appraisal (VPA) - a simulation of a consultancy assignment in which stakeholder consultation is essential to analysing and framing a complex multi-disciplinary problem.
  • The professional environment. These activities analyse your development organisation in its institutional context - i.e. your clients, and stakeholders such as the government, NGOs, and community-based organisations. There is a specific focus on organisational change and gender issues. You will also be trained in communication and leadership competences.
  • Management and Planning. This includes project-cycle management, financial management, and gender analysis and planning.
  • Specialisation modules:

      - Food Security and Rural Livelihoods is an introduction to gender concepts, the dynamics of rural livelihoods, gender and the value chain, and gender and community action.

      - Mainstreaming Gender in Agriculture and Rural Development covers service delivery and enterprise development, the promotion of learning and change, and lobbying and advocacy, including event management.

  • Research module and thesis project. After examining the role of research in addressing human needs, this module outlines 1.) the design of research projects, 2.) research types and tools, and 3.) the interpretation of research output. These activities culminate in a 12-week period in which you write a thesis on gender equality.
