Chinese students win study allowances

Wang Bo and Zhao Xing, students of the Yunnan Agricultural University (YAU) in Kunming, China, have won a study allowance of € 3,000 at Van Hall Larenstein (VHL). With both students being both excellent candidates, the jury decided to split up the original first prize of € 6,000.

Since 2002 Van Hall-Larenstein(VHL) and Yunnan Agricultural University (YAU) in Kunming (China) collaborate in the China 2+2 programme. After two years of study in China, students have to pass an oral examination that allows them to enter the final phase of two years studying at VHL in Wageningen (major International Agribusiness or major Trade/International Horticulture and Marketing).

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the YAU, last year VHL put up a prize for the best performing China 2+2 student consisting of a € 6,000 study allowance. However, Wang Bo and Zhao Xing showed the same qualities: both students were awarded for their perseverance in passing the required English proficiency test and their dedication to continuously improving their major related professional knowledge and skills.

Obviously the two students were very pleased they received the awards that will aid them in reaching the goals they have set for themselves.

Wang Bo: "For my future job, my ultimate career goal is to become a production or marketing manager in a horticulture company. I want to be a manager who has sufficient competence to know how to cultivate products, how to improve the quality of products and how to sell products to the consumer and to meet consumers' needs".

Zhao Xing: "After my graduation from VHL I want to look for new opportunities in the Yunnan Province flower industry. I would like to be actively involved in searching opportunities and introducing new varieties to the market. This requires not only professional knowledge, but professional skills as well. VHL provides me with everything I will be needing in my future career".
