Possible sources of fellowships for non-EU students

 

In general, candidates should bear in mind that official procedures require several months. It is therefore advisable to make a request for a fellowship as early as possible. Deadline for the courses is May 1. It is of no use to contact headquarters of organisations. Applications should be made through local projects/delegations only.

The Netherlands Fellowship Programme - NFP

 

The fellowship programme for Master's Degree Programmes is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is intended for professionals from 57 developing countries. Applicants must have been admitted to a Master degree programme offered by a Dutch institute for higher education and recognised by the NFP programme. Please note that you have to send your application form for admission to Van Hall Larenstein at least three months before the deadline of NFP to make sure that you will receive your admission letter in time. Applications must be sent to the nearest Dutch Embassy or consulate in your country or region. The application deadline varies per country.

STUNED Programme

 

This programme offers fellowships to Indonesian teachers, government officials and professionals with a Bachelor degree (S1) who wish to obtain a Master degree or take postgraduate courses at a Dutch university. Application takes place through the Netherlands Education Centre (NEC) in Jakarta or Surabaya. Note that only official TOEFL, IELTS or ITP language tests are accepted.

 

Other scholarships

 

Many international organisations, such as various United Nations agencies, the European Union, the World Bank, regional development banks and private foundations, provide scholarships or fellowships for studying abroad through special programmes or as part of projects and loan programmes. Please inquire at the offices of these organisations in your country/region or consult their websites.

Student Grants program

Donates 1000 euro every three months to a student who is going to study abroad. The deadlines for applications are 1 April, 1 July, 1 October, 1 January.

European Community (EC)

Through the European Community delegation in your own country.

 

Candidates: the competent government authority in their country should endorse their candidature. Particular priority is given to candidates whose vocation is connected with the implementation of training programmes or with investment projects of the European Development Fund (Agriculture).

 

Duration: grants cover the duration of the course approved.

 

Application forms may be obtained from the competent government authority in the applicant's own country and should be returned completed to the authority.

Personnel development in churches and church-related organisations.

 

Open to: candidates from any country (particularly developing countries). Candidates must have completed basic training and acquired some working experience in areas related to the proposed fields of study. They must also be nominated by the competent authorities of the church or church-related agency and selected by the national scholarships committee in their country. Courses requested should normally not be available in home countries.
