Members Equine Talent Squad compete in regional championships
Most students have happily been enjoying the summer heat and the fact that exams are over! Not so for the members of the Equine Talent Squad, as Marjolein van Koningsveld, Hester Slegt and Charlotte Kleinsmann have all been busy preparing for the regional finals at the end of July (for Marjolein and Charlotte) and mid-August (Hester).
All three girls have been scoring high points in all three selection competitions, winning or being placed in all of them. For Hester, qualifying also came hand-in-hand with winning the area championship title, having scored a very impressive 198 points with her mare Zingy. Hester and Zingy earned a place in the L2 class at the Gelderlandse regional championships in mid-August.
Both Marjolein van Koningsveld on Windekind and Charlotte Kleinsmann on Waling were competing for the honours at L2 level, in Utrecht at the end of July. Marjolein earned a fifth place in the regional championship, which gives her the right to compete in the National Championships on september 3 and 4 in Ermelo. Marjolein and Windekind have in the meantime already competed at M1 level, and performed very well, so they are absolutely ready for the National Championships!
Both Marjolein and Charlotte have also been very successful with their second horses. Marjolein has been scoring points in the Z1 with her gelding Nacho, and Charlotte has gained her first points in L-level eventing with her 5-year old gelding Zambezi.
Hanneke Huijer and Elin Ottersky, the other two members of the Equine Talent Squad, have also been achieving some considerable successes of note: Hanneke has now managed to accumulate sufficient points to compete in the ZZ-light with her E-pony Animo, a tremendous achievement in and of itself! Elin recently competed her young showjumping mare Tin Lizzy in Belgium to finish 9th amongst a number of professional riders.
All in all, it has been a very successful first season for the Equine Talent Squad!

The VHL Equine Talent Squad was formed on January 5th, 2010. Its aim is to offer very talented riders a chance to improve themselves in horseriding (dressage, jumping and eventing), while continuing their regular studies. The team is led by Inga Wolframm (Chef d'Equipe) and Eva van Ekelenburg (Team coach).
