Ready-made meals could be much better
Ready-made meals still leave a lot to be desired. This is the result of a consumer researchproject by Aafke Nijhuis and Liselotte Mooiweer, students of Food Technology in Leeuwarden. They did not study ingredients or taste, but mainly the consumer's perception of the product.
Aafke and Liselotte concluded that there are lots of improvements to be made. For instance, the instructions of microwavable meals do not include the use of different types of microwave-ovens. Also they are often difficult to read, while a large part of the consumers is over 50 years old. Moreover, various portions could be put on the market, whereas for instant a student has a different appetite than a senior person.
The graduation researchproject of Aafke and Liselotte was rewarded a score of 9 out of 10. They are now successfully continuing their studies at Wageningen University, where they picked up a master study.
