Gerrit Jeuring, born on March 20th, 1957 in Emmen, graduated from the HAVO (senior general secondary education) in Emmen. He then studied nursing in Zeist. He continued this study in Nijmegen and subsequently succesfully graduated from the RUL in Maastricht in Health Sciences. From 1978 to 1985 he was employed as a qualified nurse and taught health sciences for people with a mental handicap in Beetsterzwaag. In 1985 he stopped teaching and became a student again at the Frisan Academy of Health Sciences in Leeuwarden, where he entered a higher professional education course to become a higher qualified nurse (HBO-V).

 

From 1990 onwards he taught professional didactics for teachers at the Rijkshogeschool Groningen. From 1992 onwards he was head of the course ' Teacher Education Nursing' at the NHL. In 1995 he became head of the course HBO-V (Nursing) and was responsible for updating the curriculum. As of 1999, following the reorganisation at NHL, he was head of the department for Health Care.
